We hope you are having a great holiday season!
We have some very exciting news to share with you. We realized that we are at a stage in our lives when we can give our time and gifts. In the past months we have learned about a tremendous Christian school that is in need of help, Doulos Discovery School in the Dominican Republic. The more we learned about the school, in a poor village in the mountains, the more we knew it is the place for us to be.
We learned about the school from Ben's family. They have spent considerable time in the Dominican Republic with their church, Prince of Peace, helping the school get off the ground. The school's mission is to equip future leaders to reflect the character of Christ through experiential learning. We were intrigued with this school and blown away by the stories from their trips!
A few weeks ago we packed our bags and went on a trip to the small mountain village, Jarabacoa, to visit Doulos Discovery. It was amazing! During our visit, Mickey was the substitute teacher for the fifth grade class. The children were beautiful, joyful, faith-filled, and bright. Ben spent his time teaching English and learning about the various administrative needs of the school. The director of the school was excited that Ben's communication and marketing skills could be of great help in the marketing of Doulos Discovery to raise money to allow more students in Jarabacoa the opportunity to receive a great Christian education, which is not provided by public schools.
After learning about the school's much needed help, we both had an overwhelming feeling that this is what we are called to do. This January 4th, we are off to the Dominican Republic! Mickey will be the school's fifth grade teacher and Ben will be heading up marketing and fundraising for the school. In addition to administrative tasks, Ben will be teaching.
We are so excited to spend time teaching the children and raising support to help the school grow. We invite you to be a part of this great adventure ahead of us! While in the Dominican, we are in need of financial, emotional and prayer support. Since Doulos Discovery is unable to pay its' employees, we are in need of financial support each month. If you feel you would like to help financially either monthly or in a lump sum payment, we would be more than grateful for your gift.
